Product details

Teresa of Avila (1515-1582) is still the most widely read mystic today. Linda Maria Koldau vividly and colorfully recounts her life journey in Renaissance Spain: from the sickly, half-orphaned girl who devoured knightly romances and entered a convent against her father's wishes, to the great visionary and founder of a religious order who wrote her autobiography and stood up to the Pope and the Inquisition. "I want to consider our soul as a castle made of a single diamond or a very clear crystal, containing many chambers": with these words, Teresa of Avila begins her famous book about the inner castle that one must explore on the path to oneself and to God. However, it would be a misconception to think that she led a life of contemplative seclusion. Linda Maria Koldau describes how Teresa's gaze turned inward.
