A palace with 7 domes, under which 7 beautiful women await him and tell 7 stories: this is one side of the life of King Bahram, the legendary ruler of the Sassanian Empire. The other consists of battles against dragons, Chinese foes, and, not least, against his own vizier: a monumental epic from medieval Persia, now fully translated into German for the first time. The Rose Garden - created in the 13th century - is arguably the most popular work of classical Persian literature. It became widely known beyond the borders of Sa'di's homeland during his lifetime and is now considered one of the outstanding works of world literature. Sheikh Muslih ad-Din Sa'di (circa 1192 to 1292) expresses in it the experiences and encounters he gathered during thirty years of wandering in the guise of a dervish through various countries of the East.
