Product details
How can one reasonably consider the creator of a world that is often full of suffering and pain for us humans to be benevolent towards his creations? Norbert Hoerster examines, in easily understandable language, the solutions to this so-called problem of theodicy that are particularly proposed by theologians. This book does not address the question of whether an omnipotent and omniscient God exists, but rather the theologians' claim to provide a rational justification for belief in an all-good God, despite all the natural disasters, severe illnesses, and the cruel crimes committed by humans. In a critical examination of the various justifications, all of which fail to withstand his scrutiny, the philosopher takes the wishful thinking of the theologians to task.
