Product details

Samuel Beckett held Hölderlin's work in high regard. He even incorporated one of Hölderlin's stanzas into the guiding concept of his own works - 'the Nothing'. The newly gained understanding of this relationship poses a challenge, especially considering that Hölderlin's path as a philosopher began under the banner of 'being' as a guiding concept. Dieter Henrich takes on this challenge in his new major book. It connects two very different explorations, one in the analysis of works and the other in philosophical inquiry. Beckett's references to Hölderlin are examined, and the development of both authors' works is explored in relation to one another. The Hölderlin of Samuel Beckett has a very different profile than the one particularly drawn by George and Heidegger in the 20th century. Surprisingly, it is not just a modern Hölderlin.
