Product details

Freaks - this strange monster film from 1932 is more than just a movie - it is a myth, a kind of idol, a carnival, and at the same time, black magic. Around it swirl the shards of stories and rumors, of shattered careers and broken dreams, as well as aged memories that still shine. Like Madame Tetrallini's squeaky circus wagon, this film has rolled over bumpy, rocky terrain for decades, pushing through twilight... into the darkness... only to re-emerge time and again, in the light of a new day, dragging along the horrified and the fascinated, an exotic artifact about seemingly exotic people. Only in the sideshow, at fairs, and in the circus do they seem to find their place: the people without lower bodies, the beings without arms and legs, the deformed and the disabled, the conjoined twins and the water heads, the bearded women and also the beautiful equestrienne - they are all outcasts, far too often subjected to laughter. Tod Browning dedicated one of the most beautiful films in the world to them and made them stars. For this film from 1932 not only tells a story of freaks, a hauntingly beautiful and tragic tale, but in this film, the freaks themselves perform. Thus, the film has become more than just a film about them; it provides insight into their souls. Everything about this cult film - about the life and work of director Tod Browning, the actor Johnny Eck, as well as rare footage and the story by Tod Robbins that underlies the film.
