Rest areas on the highway are usually spaces devoid of art - not so the "Relais du Saint-Bernard" on the A9: it was chosen by curators Simon Lamunière, Véronique Mauron, and Julia Hountou as the main venue for the Triennale Valais / Wallis 2017. It is a paradoxical environment where nature, mobility, consumption, and leisure converge, featuring works by thirty local, Swiss, and international artists. The exhibition at this very unusual location for art offers opportunities to step off the conventional paths and take a look behind the reflective surfaces of an art world that has increasingly become entangled in established practices.
