Following the immensely successful small guide, there is now a comprehensive and significantly more complex publication about the Tarot Garden, for which Niki de Saint Phalle personally selected the images and conceived the layout. In vibrant colors and with overflowing imagination, the artist created a collection of 22 monumental sculptures in Tuscany, inspired by the symbols of the tarot cards. Partially realized with the assistance of Jean Tinguely, they were constructed in concrete and adorned with a mosaic of mirrors, glass, and colored ceramics. It is the largest and most significant artwork that the artist developed until her death in 2002. Amidst the lush nature, Niki de Saint Phalle created a garden of joy, which became her greatest adventure. Her ideas and their realization in the gradual emergence of the total artwork are described.
