Building on a comprehensive analysis of existing knowledge from international participation and technology research, Katharina Grosse develops, for the first time in this book, a theoretically grounded user typology for e-participation in Germany. The author describes five types of participants: Designers, Optimizers, Players, World Improvers, and Engaged Individuals. For each of these types, she derives specific requirements and translates them into concrete design recommendations. This creates a foundation for politicians, public administration employees, and software developers to make e-participation more user-friendly and to reduce barriers to participation.
