Tochtli, the twelve-year-old son of a Mexican drug lord, narrates how it is to grow up in wealth and deep loneliness, with a father who gives him everything he wants, and with wild characters, some of whom occasionally do not return. They explain to him the difference between a belly shot and a head shot. The rest is handled by his private tutor, a disillusioned revolutionary: the French are the best at beheading, Yankees are to blame for everything but bring in a lot of dollars and weapons that are fun to play with. Only a Liberian pygmy hippo is not so easily obtained. But in the end, the fiesta does go on. A mini-novel that tells more about Mexico, Latin America, its fatal dependency, and its inexhaustible tendency towards megalomania and fleeting glory in just a few pages than everything one reads in the newspaper.
