Meine Skandale
German, Gabriel Astruc, Joachim Kalka, 2015Product details
Gabriel Astruc - today forgotten, but once the most dynamic, witty, and above all, the most controversial impresario in France. When he opened his Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in 1913, four major scandals occurred there as if on cue, which he recounts with delight in these memories. The main figures were Richard Strauss, Claude Debussy, and Igor Stravinsky. The outrage of the audience, the press, and of course the church was primarily ignited by the scantily clad ballet stars. However, it was the inability to endure a piece that pointed far beyond its time, such as Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring," that nearly brought the beautiful theater, barely built, to ruin in May 1913 with what is arguably the most legendary of all theater scandals.
