Product details

Lake Tegernsee is located 50 kilometers south of Munich, nestled in the Mangfall Mountains. The charming combination of lake and mountains has attracted people throughout the ages. After the Benedictines came the Wittelsbach dynasty, followed by famous writers like Ludwig Thoma and Ludwig Ganghofer, as well as artists like Karl Stieler and Olaf Gulbransson. To this day, Lake Tegernsee has lost none of its allure. We will visit a world-renowned paper mill, meet Gulbransson's grandson, and cook with a two-star chef. What secrets lie behind Castle Ringberg high above Rottach-Egern? The nearby Schliersee, which has a distinctly more relaxed atmosphere, also has much to offer: the versatile Schlierbergalm, the lords of Hohenwaldeck and the remnants of their knight's castle, the famous Schliersee farmer's theater, and of course, the grave of the wild shooter Jennerwein. Three extra tours will take us underground in Hausham, to a cheese dairy, and to the last blacksmith in Josefsthal.

We invite you on an extraordinary journey of discovery. There will also be tips for cozy beer gardens and dining options. Former SZ editor Manfred Hummel offers an entertainingly written piece of local history to cycle through.

With detailed route descriptions and an alpine panorama, numerous color photos, an overview map, insider tips for culinary delights, hidden swimming spots, and extraordinary sights.
