Nowhere are the breaks and new beginnings of German history more clearly visible than in East Germany. "Once and Now" shows where the historical has been preserved in towns and villages and where the new has taken hold. The juxtaposition of images, ideally taken from the same perspective to document the changes, is complemented by texts on history. The cultural city of Weimar is the focus of the 42nd volume of the series. The list of sights is long and includes more than just well-known views of castles, parks, museums, and monuments. The sequence of images begins with the only city view not left by a photographer, but with an engraving from the 17th century. It continues with geographical consistency from the north, starting from the train station, to the south, reaching the founding sites of the Weimar Bauhaus.
