Product details

In the Berlin Hotel Adlon, two people who mean the world to each other part ways in November 1927: Thea and Carl Sternheim. Carl Sternheim (1878-1942) is one of the most performed playwrights of the early 20th century, a great artist and an egocentric, almost unbearable husband who maintains a bourgeois lifestyle. Thea Sternheim (1883-1971), married to him for twenty years but bound to him for a lifetime, only emerges as an author later in life with her sole novel "Dead Ends." However, for more than six decades, she keeps a diary: a compendium of art and artists, the disasters of the era, and her marriage to Carl Sternheim. Among the most interesting aspects of these life records are the friendships with significant contemporaries, including Gottfried Benn and André Gide, Heinrich Mann, Frans Masereel, and Annette Kolb. Carl is present from 1930 to 1934.
