Shortly before and after the Peaceful Revolution of autumn 1989, Gerd Danigel wandered through East and then West Berlin to photograph buildings, streets, and squares of a city that had been torn apart for decades and still bore many scars of war. Thirty years later, he revisited many of those places and took his pictures a second time from exactly the same vantage point. The result is a fascinating documentation of the rapid transformation, with image pairs that continually astonish even those who are well-acquainted with Berlin.
