Summary:
The book details the planning and construction of the Berlin U-Bahn line U5, from its beginnings in the 1920s as line E from Alexanderplatz to Friedrichsfelde, to its extension over Hellersdorf to Hönow in the last years of the GDR. Numerous color and black-and-white photos illustrate this exciting history, and each subway station is described in detail. Of course, this title also includes the U55 line, which was put into operation in 2009, as well as the current plans and initial construction work for the gap closure between Alexanderplatz and Brandenburg Gate.
