Product details

Bernardo Bellotto (1721 - 1780) was the nephew and student of the Venetian view painter Giovanni Antonio Canal, from whom he also took the nickname Canaletto. He became famous for his topographical documentation of the cities of Venice, Dresden, Vienna, Munich, and Warsaw. He created the views of Dresden as the court painter to the Saxon Elector Frederick Augustus II around the mid-18th century. This volume presents the city views that are part of the State Art Collections Dresden, featuring numerous overall and full-page detail shots in consistently colored reproduction. Additionally, it includes all 16 etchings that Bellotto created after his paintings. The introduction and image explanations were written by Fritz Löffler, who is perhaps the best expert on old Dresden.
