Bridges stretch from this world to another, inviting crossing and presenting the choice for or against the good. For the supernatural, that is, the absolute good or God himself, awaits on the other side. Sometimes access reveals itself unobtrusively, while at other times a reality breaks into ours, and "God himself descends," as the agnostic Simone Weil unexpectedly experienced in a mystical event. A purely immanent reality does not exist, even though many try to construct one. Simone Weil sought to philosophically grasp the supernatural, reveal its rigorous laws, and demonstrate how it holds the universe together. This also provided her with the hermeneutic key to illuminate themes such as evil, war, power, justice, and religion.
