Product details

Without a doubt, we have the greatest marvel of evolution in our heads. However, that is only half the truth. The brain constantly plays tricks on us: it puts us in states of anxiety as if a saber-toothed tiger were chasing us, torments us with seasickness aboard a ship, or creates a completely exaggerated image of ourselves. The reasons are suspected to lie in the imbalanced relationship between very old primitive parts of the brain and newer regions. Often, the so-called reptilian brain dominates us, and the ancient amygdala keeps us on the lookout for dangers that no longer exist—resulting in inappropriate and bothersome reaction patterns. Burnett explains competently, clearly, and humorously how, when, and why our brains lead us astray.
