Open children's and youth work particularly reaches disadvantaged children and adolescents. As youth research shows, they reject established forms of politics but are willing to identify problems and engage. The first volume, "Promoting Societal Engagement of Disadvantaged Individuals," demonstrates that the actions of children and adolescents are always "social." This insight must be recognized and embraced by professionals. It also aligns with the legal and conceptual mandate of youth work: disadvantaged youth receive targeted support. They learn to perceive and implement their democratic and societal engagement in their neighborhoods, communities, and society.
