Berthold Beitz was one of the most influential figures in the German economy for decades at the helm of the Krupp Group. He always emphasized his social responsibility and advocated for compensation for forced laborers and the new Eastern policy. It was only late that it became known that he saved the lives of hundreds of Polish Jews during the war—a deed for which he was honored as "Righteous Among the Nations" at Yad Vashem.
