Bettina van Haaren (1961) describes her work as a state of utmost tension, a probing caress of the things laid out before her, a demonstration of search and doubt, a cautious approach, often interrupted, a physical act filled with wonder at what the hand is doing. The world appears through pars-pro-toto particles in its banality, in nature, in cultural products, and in social, political, and historical dimensions, as well as in her own physical constitution. The book features nearly 80 drawings from the past three years, all created during her travels, in places such as Rome, Naples, Madrid, Toledo, Turin, Marseille, Leipzig, Deia, or Imperia.
