Between avant-garde and salon Caesar Pinnau 1906 - 1988
GermanProduct details
The book presents for the first time the rich, comprehensive work of architect Cäsar Pinnau, created on the basis of exquisite drawings, and places it in a historical-critical context. Pinnau's person and work are still evaluated ambivalently and rarely impartially in the professional world today. Some see him as the modernist who designed avant-garde passenger spaces for zeppelins and elegant skyscrapers like the one for Hamburg-Süd with its delicate curtain wall facades. Others recognize him as the virtuoso style architect with a troubling proximity to the power center of National Socialism, particularly in the design of the interior of Hitler's New Reich Chancellery. He himself considered himself an unpolitical person. Cäsar Pinnau's pronounced penchant for opulence may seem outdated to today's viewers, but it possesses a high aesthetic appeal. His villa constructions for the post-war elite.
