The Stuttgart New Lusthaus was commissioned by Duke Ludwig and built by his master builder Georg Beer from 1584 to 1593. As one of the most significant Renaissance buildings north of the Alps, the structure represented the political and cultural aspirations of the Duchy of Württemberg in the 16th and 17th centuries. Today, only the ruins displayed in the castle garden remain as a testament to the former grandeur of the building. As part of a research project at the University of Stuttgart, the tumultuous history of the New Lusthaus has been reconstructed. The publication presents these newly gained insights in detail, considering historical, stylistic, contextual, and constructive relationships. Numerous historical illustrations, many of which were previously unknown, complement the discussions.
