Part 1-1 of Eurocode 5 for the design and construction of timber structures provides the general rules and regulations for building construction. It includes specifications on load-bearing capacity, serviceability, durability, and fire resistance of timber structures. The consolidated version of the standard takes into account all previous amendments and corrections. Following the publication of a commented summary of Eurocode 5 in 2013, the authors now provide a complete commentary on the normative text for the first time. To make the content of Eurocode 5 more transparent and to facilitate its application in practice, the authors comment on the entire content using relevant excerpts from the standard. Numerous images and tables illustrate the comments. The work is supplemented by further literature recommendations.
