The DIN Handbook 193 "Mechanical Fasteners 5" contains specifications for basic geometries that are important for the interchangeability of products (head shapes, keyways, metric threads, sheet metal screw threads, screw ends, and through holes). Changes from the previous edition mainly occurred in the area of terminology, which now includes clear names and definitions to ensure unambiguous communication in the global market for fasteners. For example, the names in the multilingual versions of DIN EN ISO 1891 Parts 2 and 4 (2015) have been supplemented by two languages from the Asian economic region. The current status of European standardization for mechanical fasteners is provided in Supplement 3 of DIN 918:2017-08.
