Around half of all partnerships today end in separation. The final destination is divorce - often after just a few years, but on average after 14 years of marriage. In this context, the marital vow "until death do us part" seems nostalgic. The most common reason for the end of a marriage in Western industrialized countries is no longer death, but divorce. Although many factors contribute to divorce in a complex interplay, numerous studies show that stress plays a prominent role. Stress can be seen as one of the most frequent triggers for divorces. It can be responsible for a gradual deterioration of the relationship as well as serve as a specific trigger for separation. In any case, it represents one of the central challenges for partnerships today.
