The Duden editorial team and the authors Ursula Bredel and Christiane Maass present the first comprehensive handbook on the topic of Easy Language. It is aimed at researchers, advanced students, staff in public administrations, translators, and others who deal with the subject of Easy Language. The first part of the volume defines Easy Language and outlines its development. It presents the legal foundations and describes the target audience for texts in Easy Language. Furthermore, the existing guidelines for translating into Easy Language are critically evaluated; the creation of texts in Easy Language is placed in the context of various translation theories. In the second part, the existing rules for Easy Language are specified on a scientific basis.
