In the midst of the Gommer mountain spring, Kaspar Wolfensberger sends his investigator Kauz Chüzz Walpen, the former police officer from the Upper Swiss region with Gommer roots, along with his loyal dog and companion Max, on a quest for clues. Thawing snow reveals a body on the outskirts of Münster, and further unexplained deaths at the senior residence Primavera, a former inn converted into an elderly care facility, raise eyebrows.

The new parish priest, the African priest Emmanuel Mbembe, finds the house unsettling. When he collapses and dies during mass, Kauz is convinced that the black priest fell victim to an assassination attempt. Did he know more about the events at Primavera than he had confided in Chüzz? Are racist motives involved in the crime?.
