Abstract: In 2012, 36,048 children and adolescents lived in residential child and youth welfare facilities in the Federal Republic of Germany. This paper aims to establish a connection between attachment theory and work in residential child and youth welfare. The question to be discussed is what influence attachment theory can have on the work in residential child and youth welfare. First, we will explain the relevant part of attachment theory for our work. In Chapter 3, we will provide an overview of the history, legal foundations, and forms of residential work. Subsequently, we will discuss attachment-based trauma.
