Birgitta
German, 2003Product details
Birgitta Birgersdotter (1303 - 1373) was a Swedish high aristocrat and founder of the Bridgettine Order. She continues to impress today with her passionate fight for a spiritual renewal of Christian Europe. She criticized the high clergy as neglectful of their duties, the Swedish monarchy as unchristian, and the European nobility as inhumane. She left behind an extensive written legacy, including the world-famous "Revelations." Canonized in 1391, she was honored by Pope John Paul II in 1999 with the title of "Co-Patroness of Europe.".
