Volume II of the textbook on dental crown and bridge prosthetics deals with prostheses that are solely supported by teeth, for which the conventional term "bridge" is commonly used in the literature. The prosthetic-therapeutic treatment of edentulous spaces with bridges aims to secure the remaining teeth and to reconstruct the masticatory, phonetic, and physiognomic functions of the dentition in the long term. Edentulous spaces exhibit considerable individual differences in terms of number, distribution, shape, and condition of the remaining teeth, as well as concerning the biological value of the periodontal tissues. These differences can be identified through a comprehensive assessment. The findings indicate which prosthetic-therapeutic measures need to be implemented immediately and which may become necessary over time.
