The authors have incorporated current findings from masonry research in Switzerland as well as international experiences and developments in design methods and reinforcement systems, and have prepared them into clear and understandable concepts for practical use. They report on test results under various combined loads and examine masonry structures that are reinforced with bar reinforcements and plastic laminates. Limit states of load-bearing capacity and serviceability are determined separately. The comparison with earlier standardization regulations allows for a retrospective assessment of the risk potential of masonry structures that were designed according to old standard concepts. This is particularly important for renovations and repair measures. The authors provide numerous examples for design and offer valuable insights.
