The revised introductory volume illustrates and explains the interaction of all structural components in the building for the transfer of horizontal and vertical loads into the ground. Typical structural elements, particularly the surface structures used in building construction, the truss analogy employed for modeling complex structures, and the building safety classes are presented in detail. It also includes an overview of current construction methods in solid and skeleton construction. The risk analysis for existing buildings and construction examples have been newly included, and the standards have been aligned with European regulations.
