My salvation came when I simply started running without pressure, leaving behind any measurements of distances, speeds, and times. While this seemingly gives us stability, it also holds many of us back. This is the realization that has not made Markus Torgeby a better person, but rather a much wiser and more relaxed one. After being heavily pressured by coaches during his youth—where he achieved personal bests in training but often failed in competitions—the then 20-year-old took an incredible step: he escaped the immense pressure caused by his coach and his mother's illness and moved to the most remote and coldest region of northern Sweden. There, he lived as a hermit in the woods for four years and discovered a new approach to life through his experiences and running.
