Product details

A Viennese district politician, a truck driver from Idaho, a hairdresser from Salzburg, and an author from Texas – they are all part of that forgotten generation born between 1946 and 1956 as children of Austrian women and African American GIs. Many of these children were separated from their mothers, placed in homes, or released for foster care and adoption. In Austria, their integration into society was made difficult, as was their access to adequate education. As a result, many lived almost invisible lives within society. In the 1950s, some were adopted and brought to the USA. There, they faced a challenging situation due to language barriers, their often unclear legal status, and the widespread segregation laws of the time. The book presents the results of years of research.
