Hamburg during World War II: The wailing of sirens hangs over the city, Hamburg's Jews are being deported in droves, and high school graduates are being sent to the front as quickly as possible. Where vibrant, engaging lessons were once held, discipline and order have returned. The former ideals of education seem lost. Yet, while Emil and Anneliese cater to the Nazi regime, Felicitas remains steadfastly committed to her values. When she encounters former students who have now become university students, she comes across a leaflet from Munich that brings new hope. And demands a radical decision.
