Since the attacks of September 11, 2001, and the increasing involvement of the German Armed Forces in international combat missions, wars and terrorism have been increasingly reflected in contemporary literature. A significant component of this is radical boundary constructions such as friend versus foe and own versus foreign, which are questioned and re-explored. Stephanie Willeke focuses on various war actors in her study, thereby opening up a multiperspective view of the literary processing of current wars in German-language novels. The study offers both new perspectives on the events of war and on the societal discourse surrounding the topic.
