The three-volume work on the art scene in Kiel during the 19th and 20th centuries begins with a panorama of the art scene at the time of the Danish Realm. The author has analyzed contemporary newspapers, letters, and archival materials, compiling a rich collection of mostly unknown visual material from museums and private collections. He reports on collectors and critics, public and private patrons, institutions and associations, and presents over 20 painters and sculptors in detailed biographies.
