Product details
It is a snapshot of an idyll – and at the same time the final act of a drama marked by nationalism and enmity, by small and large wars, by resentments, economic crises, and unemployment. Only a single photo has survived. It shows three couples from the widely branched Prahl family of pastors leaving the Nicolaikirche in Eckernförde. They are celebrating together that day their golden, silver, and green weddings. It is a lively, seemingly completely private and carefree celebration taking place on August 31, 1930. Yet, in its backstory within the microcosm of the private and in the web of voices and fates, of many family traditions and documents, a panorama of national and contemporary history becomes tangible. The conflicts and borderland struggles between Danes and Germans.
