Product details

The island of Strand and Rungholt exudes a mythical power - they symbolize the primordial catastrophe of the North Frisians, the two gigantic storm surges known as "Mandränken," which struck the land in 1362 and 1634. The legendary Rungholt and the island of Strand were swallowed by the sea at that time, leaving only the island of Pellworm, Nordstrand, and the Hallig Nordstrandischmoor. Centuries after these events, the author team led by Robert Brauer and Hellmut Bahnsen rediscovered the locations from the past using modern GPS technology, uncovering astonishing findings. During their walks in the mudflats, they came across bones, shards, well rings, house foundations, mounds, and ditches. Be surprised by the unique traces of culture that are still discoverable today.
