ADHD: Diagnosis instead of understanding?

Product details
The book is both a critical analysis of the ADHD discourse and a foundational text. Wenke fills a theoretical gap by exploring the phenomenology of the body as the basis for an existential psychology, for example, for special education or psychoanalysis. ADHD increasingly emerges as a cultural product and a tool for the biologization and individualization of the consequences of social change. The quasi-psychiatric diagnosis serves the involved parents, doctors, and teachers to keep the children's threatening behavior psychologically at bay and to create the appearance of scientific controllability: it is preferable to have sick children than unhappy ones. The theoretical part of the book fundamentally critiques the prevalent worldview of a so-called "evolutionary epistemology" from a phenomenological perspective and identifies its weaknesses.
