A discussion about daycare centers is taking place across Germany: What should daycare centers look like to ensure that toddlers develop physically and mentally healthy, especially now that it is becoming standard to care for children outside the family from the age of two? This book provides valuable psychoanalytical insights for those involved in early childhood care or for parents looking to enroll their children in daycare, based on experiences from the former East Germany. The book explores the effects of early daycare attendance, with particular attention given to physical and emotional health as well as personality development. It emphasizes the later impact on one's own parenting due to the interplay of familial, institutional, and subjective factors. The findings of these qualitative studies are presented by the authors.
