Alice Salomon (1872-1948) was a pioneer of social work and significantly influenced the development of the German and international women's movement. Forced into exile by the Nazis in 1937, she wrote her memoirs in English in the USA. Alice Salomon was born in 1872 in Berlin; from 1893, she worked on the reform project "Girls' and Women's Groups for Social Assistance"; in 1899, she opened the first annual course and in 1908, the Social Women's School in Berlin-Schöneberg, one of the world's first training institutions for social work; in 1902, she studied national economics, history, and philosophy, and earned her doctorate in 1906; since 1900, she has been one of the leading representatives of the German women's movement, and since 1909, also of the international women's movement.
