Since Frankfurt, alongside Berlin, was a center of Jewish musical life in Germany, Martinis' work holds exemplary significance. With extensive visual and textual material from domestic and foreign archives, the history of Jewish musicians and their institutions in Frankfurt am Main, as well as their disenfranchisement during the Nazi era, is traced. Equally documented are the attempts to counter persecution with forms of resistance. The first volume includes unique visual material with hundreds of images, complemented by a wealth of informative texts and documents. Additionally, numerous musician biographies are included. The second volume gathers a large selection of texts and announcements.
