Van Gogh's letters are a unique testament to the fate of a genius whose life was marked by failure, self-doubt, and mental illness, while simultaneously serving as a document of his idiosyncratic artistic development. The volume includes approximately 70 letters, accompanied by detailed annotations as well as indexes of people, places, and works. The drawings included in the letters by Van Gogh are reproduced, and some letters are fully illustrated.
