Product details

The theaters in Biel and Solothurn, with their many external venues, have found an experienced planner and organizer in Mario Bettoli. Initially tasked with administrative duties, he eventually became the chief dispatcher and director of the artistic operations office. Bettoli was at home in Biel; the theater was his family. For the stage artists as well as for those working in administration, technical roles, workshops, and the foyer, he was the point of contact and a father figure, a constant amidst the changing artistic directors. He was someone who knew everyone and everything: the theater, thanks to his premiere visits across Switzerland, as well as the entire musical theater repertoire, the roles and what they demanded from their performers, and the voices of the singers. In 2013, his 43 years of work in the theater came to an end with his retirement. Mario Bettoli shared with the editor and the publishers, over many hours, what has moved him in his life, amusing anecdotes, but also insights that were pivotal for the future of the theater as TOBS (Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn). The book presents the recorded conversations as "oral history" in their original tone. Additionally, many theater creators have shared in conversations or written contributions how they experienced Mario Bettoli. This book is dedicated to him, the cheerful and sociable person, as a thank you for his long-standing commitment to the theater, whose flourishing was a heartfelt concern for him – unfortunately, he did not live to see the publication of the book.
