Product details
In the established HTA commentary series, Joel White interprets the Letter to the Colossians: thoroughly, strictly text-based, and yet practically relevant. The author views the Letter to the Colossians as a genuine Pauline letter, rather than a writing of one of his students. The differences from other Pauline letters are explained by the specific task of refuting a particular, Jewish-influenced heresy. In response to this heresy, Paul outlines a "high" doctrine of Christ, in which God's fullness is reflected. Within his teaching about the future, Paul emphasizes those elements that highlight that salvation is already experienced now. With these observations, White achieves a distinctive interpretation of the Letter to the Colossians. The Historical-Theological Commentary Series (HTA) of the New Testament is a project by exegetes from the evangelical field. It provides scholarly explanations.
