Butterflies, fig and almond trees, the lush generosity of the Mediterranean landscape along with the ever-blue August sky in Dalmatia are deeply intertwined in Marica Bodrozic's narratives with the time of innocence that is part of every childhood. This time is reflected in the figure of the grandfather, a village bell ringer who was a cook for the partisans and who refused to shoot German prisoners at the end of World War II. When he dies, the era of Yugoslav peace comes to an end and war breaks out. Nevertheless, in these stories, the shimmering air of summer hovers like a protective hand over everything.
