Product details
In June 1939, Hitler and Mussolini signed an agreement for the resettlement of the South Tyroleans and encouraged them to consider migrating to the Reich. Among the seventy thousand who set out is the lawyer Franz Dignös. He moves alone to Munich and eagerly awaits the arrival of his wife Gretl and their children Georg, Annemie, and Lise. However, the four are delayed, as Gretl is deeply attached to her homeland and only relents after a dramatic struggle. Georg Dignös weaves together memories, fiction, and the original correspondence between the couple into an exciting and moving family story. At the same time, he documents a piece of European history that has left wounds in many South Tyroleans, wounds that have not healed even 66 years after the end of the war.
