Love, passion, jealousy: This edition introduces the world of ancient elegy and Ovid's playful engagement with it. It examines not only the tumultuous love relationship of the lyrical I with his Corinna but also the critical undertones of the time as well as Ovid's theoretical reflections on poetry. The edition is supplemented by a small selection from the Heroides, in which Ovid confronts the elegiac world with harsh mythological reality, predominantly presented from a female perspective.
